Dear CODE27 Family,
Our team has been working closely with our manufacturing partner to improve our processes for mass production, and resolving the dust issue that affected a handful of units took longer than estimated. Simultaneously, the team has been working on Codie Spaces, improving character interactions, squashing bugs and working on revising the roadmap based on your feedback.
Software Progress
New Ways to Interact with Your Codie
We're developing a new way for you to physically interact with your Codie. You'll be able to touch, pat, and play with your Codie and see them respond naturally in the moment.
Codie Spaces
An early version of Codie Spaces is coming to CODE27, with a curated set of built-in environments your Codie can inhabit. Customization will follow in later updates. Alongside this, we're improving camera controls within these spaces, including angle selection and smoother zoom.
Diaries and Long-Term Memory
Your Codie will remember your time together through Diaries. Coming in the next update, you'll be able to browse individual memories as cards, so you can see what they remember. This is another step towards the deeper Diaries experience we're building.
Content Progress
Our art and content teams have been making progress on new Original Codies and outfits. Elias is approaching the final polish stage, along with a new outfit for Elena and new scenes. Elias will be available in the upcoming update.
Firmware Progress
- Resolved an anomaly in the OTA firmware update process
- Improved an issue where part of the LED array could fail to illuminate at startup
- Optimizations for Bluetooth control behavior, pending validation in the next build
- LED behavior now syncs with screen state: lights off when the screen sleeps, on when the screen wakes
Production Update
Over the past two weeks, the next batch of CODE27 units has progressed to the next stage of production. The new batch of mainboards is complete and now entering chip assembly. Alongside that, we've been refining our production process, our assembly line environment, and the equipment on the line itself to improve consistency as we scale from small batches into the hundreds of units in this run. Part of this work addresses the dust issue that affected a small number of early units, which are being handled through exchanges.
This additional preparation is the reason the 500-unit batch is likely to end up in May. We wanted to let you know as soon as we know.
Updated Production Timeline
- Now: 100+ units shipped
- Second-half of May: 500 units targeted
- May - June: 1,200 units targeted June to
- July: Pink units
- Mid-2026: Goal to complete all Kickstarter fulfillment
What's Next
- Completing production of the next 500-unit batch
- Revised roadmap details
- Continued voice expressiveness work
- Continued progress on the C.O.D.I.E. Framework, including long-term memory and customization
- Resolving issues reported by early recipients
